Nate Pepmeyer, a 19 year old Pittsburgher began a charity last November that is an inspiration to many. Concerned about under-funded elementary schools having their funding cut for the arts, Nate began ipaintforhugs.org, a site where he sells his paintings, donating 100% of his profits to create 10 grants of $1,000 for under-funded elementary school arts programs in the year 2010. Amazingly, Nate has already made his first donation of a $1,000 grant from sales of his paintings. Now other Pittsburgh artists, including up-and-coming artists Lauren Toohey and Elizabeth Pallack, are joining his website, offering 50% of their profits to his cause. Talk about a positive thought for the day. With his recent inclusion in the Pittsburgh Arts For Change association, his new “Guest Artists” section, his book sales, and Amazon referral programs to assist him, Nate will most likely achieve his goal far ahead of schedule.
